Description (View/Hide)
The Waze #seditreg / #ishokahle campaign aims to promote and raise awareness of South African place names. This campaign aims to correct the default robotic voice pronunciation that exists within GPS software by getting South Africans to record their voices and add their pronunciation of these places.
This lack of proper pronunciation meant losing the meaning behind the word because it is not being said correctly in the language it originates from. The two most mispronounced languages are Afrikaans and Zulu and these will be the focus of the campaign. The solution is to get Waze users to correctly record their voices in areas they have passed on their journey. This is to ensure they also have a moment to reflect on where they have just been. Users will vote on an existing user’s voice recording to place them on the leader board where they will earn limited edition Waze Moods and even score badges based on how impactful they were during the campaign.
