Brief:
Create a brand of merchandise that engages with the cause by taking a stand and encouraging conversations around the issue.
Problem:
Large Industrial fisheries have caused immense damage to both marine ecosystems and small fishing communities which depend on said ecosystems.
With little to no support from the government, these fishers struggle to preserve their way of life which provides for the community but is also on a more sustainable scale:
Solution:
Consumers supporting small scale fishers solve both the environmental and social issues at play, by allowing small scale fishers to re-enter the value chain and practise WWF sustainable fishing.
Brand:
Little Fish is a range of merchandise that encourages buying fish directly from the local communities.
Starting off in three local fishing villages (Kalk Bay, Hout Bay and Paternoster), merchandise can be sold by fishers alongside the fish, or in local gift shops aimed at tourists. All profits made from sales go to the fishers registered with Little Fish, thus becoming not only a means of raising awareness, but also of actively supporting the local fishing communities.
